Thomas Rowley


Born 19 Sep 1733, christened 19 Sep 1736, son of Moses Rowley (1-5.001) in Colchester, Connecticut. He probably moved with his parents to the Oblong, Dutchess Co., NY by 1748, back to Kent, Litchfield Co., CT by 1752, then (after 1755) to Richmond, Berkshire Co., MA where his father died after 1773. Served in 4th Connecticut Regiment, 6th Company between 1755 and 1762 in the French and Indian War

Identified in list of men raised to serve in the Continental Army from Capt. Joseph Ramond's and Capt. Ambrose Hill's cos., of Richmond; residence, Richmond; engaged for town of Richmond; joined Capt. Chadwick's co., Col. Brewer's regiment; term, 3 years;

Identified in list of men mustered between Jan. 20, 1777, and June 1, 1778, by Truman Wheler, Muster Master for Berkshire Co.; Capt. Chadwick's co., Col. Brewer's regiment; reported received State bounty;

Private in Capt. Means's co., Col. Ebenezer Sprout's regiment; Continental Army pay accounts for service from Feb. 1, 1777, to ; reported deserted in 1777;

Capt. John Chadwick's co., Col. Brewer's regiment; return dated Jan. 22, 1778; mustered by M. Wheeler; reported sick at Richmond.
